By completing the Cultural Competence e-learning program, you can gain a better understanding of the crucial cultural factors that may impact the acceptance of healthcare and treatment options. The goal of this program is to reduce healthcare outcome disparities by enhancing cultural awareness and sensitivity among healthcare providers.
The programme has been developed by Health Education England, elearning for healthcare in collaboration with the Royal College of Midwives and other key stakeholders.

Cultural Competence
Cultural competence in healthcare refers to a healthcare provider’s ability to understand and effectively respond to the cultural and linguistic needs of patients from diverse backgrounds.
It includes a willingness to learn about and respect different cultural backgrounds, effective communication with patients and their families. In healthcare it aims to reduce health disparities. It helps improve the overall quality of care provided to all patients; regardless of their cultural or linguistic background.
Having a greater awareness of a wide range of cultural beliefs can help healthcare professionals to meet the differing needs of patients and their families.
This online medical course helps you to understand key issues relating to culture and how this may influence the uptake of healthcare and treatment options. It is hoped that this programme will help to reduce disparities in healthcare outcomes.
Using the elearning course you will have opportunities to reflect on and review your own understanding and practice to help you care for patients from different backgrounds.
