Reducing Avoidable Term Admissions
Separating babies from their mothers is generally not recommended unless there are extenuating circumstances or immediate safety concerns. Promoting mother-infant bonding and maintaining a strong parent-child relationship is crucial for the emotional and physical well-being of both the baby and the mother. However there may be situations where temporary separation becomes necessary due to specific medical conditions or other urgent factors.
The Reducing Avoidable Term Admissions elearning course has been developed by NHS England’s elearning for healthcare with representatives from University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, Thames Valley and Wessex Neonatal Network, Bournemouth University and NHS England (South).
