There are two main types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults and occurs when the body's immune system attacks and destroys the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. Type 2 diabetes, which is more common, typically develops in adults and is often linked to lifestyle factors such as obesity, poor diet, and lack of exercise. Gestational diabetes is a third type that affects some women during pregnancy.
Diabetes care is essential for maintaining good health and preventing or delaying the onset of serious complications. It involves a combination of medication, healthy lifestyle choices, monitoring, and education to help patients effectively manage their condition and improve their overall quality of life.
