Introduction
Stroke is a leading cause of death and long-term disability worldwide. Therefore, timely and evidence-based care across the patient pathway can dramatically improve outcomes. Stroke management spans prevention, acute response, rehabilitation, and long-term care. At each stage, multidisciplinary teams must work in coordination across primary, secondary, and community settings.
Healthcare professionals at all levels play a critical role in reducing stroke incidence and improving recovery. This includes staff in emergency departments, general practice, specialist stroke units, and community rehabilitation services. However, the complexity of stroke care presents significant challenges. Many professionals need structured training to build the knowledge and skills required for effective, patient-centred care.
To support this need, the Stroke elearning course offers a comprehensive overview of prevention, acute management, rehabilitation, and long-term support. As a result, health and social care professionals gain the understanding needed to care for patients at risk of stroke, experiencing stroke, or living with its long-term effects.
Developed by: This course was developed by the UK Stroke Forum, the University of Central Lancashire, NHS England and NHS Improvement, in partnership with NHS England eLearning for Healthcare.
